Proven fertility of all donors

To ensure top-quality and complete safety of donor material provided by First Egg Bank, our experienced and professional team of fertility specialists and nurses, egg donor coordinators, geneticists, and psychologists extensively evaluate personal and family medical history and other basic information of each egg donor to make sure it complies with our highest selection criteria.

Simultaneously to the detailed physical examination carries out, potential egg donors are interviewed by a psychologist and their mental aptitude for the participation in the egg donation program is evaluated.

Donors are regularly profoundly tested, screened and rescreened according to the European Union Tissues and Cells Directive (Directive 2004/23/EC) of 31 March 2004, which sets and regulates the standards of quality and safety for the donation, procurement, testing, processing, preservation, storage and distribution of human tissues and cells as well as to HFEA regulations to egg donation.

Egg donor  screening

All egg donors are screened according to the list of tests provided below and are rescreened immediately before starting the program.

Egg donor tests ( Infectious Disease Testing) include:

  • HIV 1, 2 & 0
  • Hepatitis B
  • Hepatitis C
  • Syphilis
  • Gonorrhea
  • Chlamydia

Egg donor Genetic testing:


  • Kariotype
  • Cystic Fibrosis
  • Fragile X

We will ensure any further genetic screening of the donors whose biological material has been supplied by First Egg Bank in case of necessity and on request of our clients and partner clinics.

Before being qualified for the participation in the egg donation program,`the fertility assessment of each candidate is carried out.  This assessment includes hormonal testing for AMH level and ovarian evaluation, based on ultrasound examination during which antral follicle count is performed. 

General Egg Donor Testing and Physical Examination are performed to evaluate an egg donation program applicant’s personal and family medical history, to exclude the possibility of the potential risks to the candidate’s health and the children who will be born in the result of her egg donation.

Our donor profiles provide extended information on each donor which includes:

  • Childhood pictures
  • Adulthood pictures
  • Blood type
  • Ethnic background of donor’s parents
  • Height
  • Weight

Information on the number, sex and age of the donor’s biological children (all our donors have their own children):

  • Body build
  • BMI
  • Eye color
  • Hair color
  • Donor’s education level
  • Occupation
  • Hobbies and interests
  • Family medical history
